Pastoral care is the provision we create to ensure the physical and emotional welfare of each pupil. This begins at home and is supported in school.
West Row Academy has a strong pastoral support team who work with our staff, pupils, family and wider community to ensure pupils are supported in any way they feel they need.
West Row Academy pastoral team and Early Help offer is overseen by our Pastoral Lead and SENDCo, Miss Buckle.
Our skilled class teachers, are the first point of support for our pupils as they know them the best and can support them in settling in the classroom and beyond. It may be necessary for our class teachers to request further support from the wider team.
We use the THRIVE* principles (see below for more information) to identify pupils who need more support and for some pupils the school counsellor is on hand.
Our Team
Miss R Buckle – Pastoral Leader, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo).
As well as overseeing our pastoral work in school, Miss Buckle monitors SEND teaching, learning and assessment. She is able to make referrals to other agencies to support children with particular needs.
Miss N Nunn – THRIVE* Practitioner.
Mrs Nunn is passionate about supporting pupils to overcome social and emotional barriers to learning. She is a trained THRIVE* practitioner.
If you would like to make an appointment with Miss Buckle, please contact the school office.
*Thrive
THRIVE* is a programme of tools and training used by our adults. It identifies aspects and areas of social and emotional development a pupil may need support with.
An initial assessment of a pupil highlights the areas of need. This assessment is based on the normal daily observations of a pupil and does not involve a child directly responding to questions.
School staff assess the positive display of important social and emotional skills and determine the frequency and confidence of the skills being exhibited.
You can find out more about THRIVE through their website. https://www.thriveapproach.com/
