West Row Academy

Safeguarding

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility.

At West Row Academy, we take the safety and wellbeing of all children very seriously. We aim to provide a safe and welcoming environment underpinned by a culture of openness where both children and adults feel secure enough to raise concerns, feel listened to and trust that appropriate action will be taken to keep them safe.

In addition, we aim to embed safeguarding across our curriculum. We believe it is essential that children learn how to keep themselves safe and understand what to do if they are worried or feel unsafe. Pupils are taught how to keep themselves safe, including online, and know who they can talk to if they have a concern.

If you have a concern regarding safeguarding, you can contact our designated safeguarding leads by calling 01638 715680.

“Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play. In order to fulfil this responsibility effectively, all practitioners should make sure their approach is child centred. This means that they should consider, at all times, what is in the best interests of the child.”

Safeguarding Policy and Child Protection Procedure

Our Safeguarding Policy and Child Protection Procedure applies to all staff, parents, governors, volunteers, visitors and pupils. A copy of the Safeguarding Policy and Child Protection Procedure is available to download from our Policies and Documents page.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Leaders have established an open and positive safeguarding culture in which staff are vigilant, act in the best interests of pupils, and feel confident to raise and record concerns. Staff understand procedures for reporting safeguarding concerns, including whistleblowing, and act promptly and with confidence.

Leaders fulfil all statutory safeguarding responsibilities, including safer recruitment practices, maintenance and regular quality assurance of the single central record, compliance with the Prevent duty, and the appropriate handling of allegations against adults.

The aims of our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy are to:

  • provide staff with a clear framework to promote and safeguard the wellbeing of children and young people and to ensure they understand and fulfil their statutory responsibilities
  • ensure consistent and effective safeguarding practice across the school
  • support robust oversight of safeguarding arrangements so that pupils are kept safe and feel safe
